Strawberry Nets Art Print by Eric Ravilious

Painted in Pewsey, Wiltshire in 1932, this peaceful garden scene shows boys in flat caps picking berries. Fig trees and blackcurrant bushes - and of course strawberry plants - are depicted in great detail as the sunlight streams in through the netting above. This beautiful watercolour is typical of the paintings of Eric Ravilious. It shows a view of a garden but from a totally unique viewpoint - from under the strawberry nets. Gardens provided the inspiration for many Ravilious compositions over the decades. His series of images of Greenhouse interiors are also among his best works. These include 'Geraniums and Carnations' and 'Cyclamen and Tomatoes', both of which are available here as high quality limited edition art prints.

Celebrated British artist Eric Ravilious was a skilled wood engraver, his illustrations in this medium make striking use of strong tonal contrast which can be detected throughout his artworks. He produced a vast body of work which included book jackets, poster designs for London Transport, furniture and glass designs plus ceramic designs for Wedgewood. He also found time to teach part-time at the Royal College of Art. Ravilious was very successful during his tragically short lifetime, becoming one of the most popular artists of the 1930s.
