Wet Afternoon Art Print by Eric Ravilious

A quintissentially English scene, this watercolour painting from 1938 depicts a lone figure walking down a country lane in a rain shower. He wears a rain hat and coat and walks along a sinous, winding lane that runs between two hedges leading the eye to a small, cream-coloured church.  This is the Church of St. Mary at Capel-y-ffin near Llanthony Priory in the Black Mountains of Wales. Rain is falling steadily giving the surface of the road a wet gleam and the foliage is lush and green. The mountains can be seen in the distance to the right. 'Wet Afternoon Art Print' was produced in pencil and watercolour.
